Portofino

Portofino is a fantastic Italian location, located on the Riviera Ligure, considered by many as one of the world’s eight wonders. This tiny resort has an idyllic setting on the Ligurian coast and a wonderfully picturesque harbor. Surrounded by pine trees and olive groves, Portofino retains the charm of the original fishing village despite its jet-set reputation: summer at the Italian Riviera's most exclusive resort cannot be beaten - and the weather is usually warm until the end of October. It is a small town of no more than 500 people, placed upon its bay. It’s kind of a natural bowl, which has become the world’s famous Piazzetta. The whole area is a national park: no new structures may be built, and the whole area is laced in hiking trails. Portofino became famous in the 60s, when the famous characters of the“Dolce Vita”, actors, actresses, pop stars, and rich aristocrats frequently started visiting it for its twilights, exclusive parties, and breath-taking views. At the time, the high society moved from Via Veneto and Piazza di Spagna in Rome during weekends to Portofino, Capri, Saint Tropez, Montecarlo, Cortina and Saint Moritz. Through time, Portofino has seen a excellant high standard of living thanks to its exclusive guests, huge yachts and famous boat races such as the Zegna Trophy and for its incredible and natural beauty.

The Liguria area in general

Palm trees, dramatic cliffs overlooking picturesque villages, tulip fields, natural parks and crystal clear, deep water: the Liguria coast, a stretch that goes from the French border to La Spezia, looks like a movie set. It's outstandingly different from the Tuscan Riviera nearby, long expanses of sandy beaches and coordinated gazebos: this one is wild, beautiful and authentic. Punctuated more-or-less in the middle by the historic city of Genoa, it is a shoreline very much of two halves. The western sector is known as the Riviera di Ponente, the coast of the setting sun, and has relatively wide beaches and lush landscapes. The eastern Riviera di Levante is more weathered and offers areas of wild and craggy drama. The coast attracts discerning travellers, photography lovers, hiking and trekking enthusiasts, as well as glamorous owners of yachts. Guests who rent in this area will also be able to visit charming towns such as Monte Carlo, San Remo, Cannes and Genoa (Genova), the capital of Liguria, a very important port in Italy, a place for design - the world famous architect Renzo Piano is originally from here and has made sure to leave his footstep in the area through magnificent buildings and museums - not to mention the birthplace of Christopher Columbus: such history is today reflected in a number of elegant mansions and religious monuments harmoniously linked here to contemporary buildings. This coast features one of Italy’s prettiest landscapes, also known as the Flower Riviera for the impressive natural explosion of coloured flowers and plants all around. The narrow arc of the Riviera is vertiginously backed by the Maritime Alps, and along this well-sheltered strip of land there is an exceptionally mild microclimate, indeed in time pasts the high season was the winter. It is arguably the prettiest, most flower-filled stretch of Italian coast.
