Trullo San Vito

Discover a unique part of Italy’s heritage up close at Trullo San Vito. This brand-new luxury vacation rental is based on an original trullo, a type of limestone house that’s been constructed in the Puglia region since the Stone Age and is now on the UNESCO World Heritage List. The contemporary villa was designed around the trullo, and features custom-designed modern touches and space for up to eight friends and family members.

The villa is set on nearly five acres of private gardens with olive groves, fruit trees and lush lawns for games or sunbathing. Relax on the terrace by the saltwater pool, gather produce from the organic fruit and vegetable gardens, prepare local specialties or old favorites on the barbecue and wood-fired pizza oven and finish the day with a meal at the al-fresco dining table. Though the villa’s architecture may date to prehistoric times, it also offers decidedly twenty-first-century amenities like Wi-Fi, a Bose sound system and air conditioning.

The villa’s interiors are a showcase for local and contemporary pieces, all custom made. The resulting look is a stylish blend of the traditional and modern, where sitting rooms with characteristic limestone walls are furnished with tufted mod armchairs, and a sleek, fully equipped kitchen has a rustic, farmhouse-inspired breakfast table.

Each of the three bedrooms has an en-suite bathroom for guests’ privacy and comfort. There are two suites with two twin beds (which can be converted to king beds) and terrace access, and one with a king bed, its own entrance and a kitchenette that could double as a honeymoon or in-law suite.

The same limestone-rich earth that has supplied stone for trulli for centuries is ideal for growing olives and grapes, making Puglia the perfect place for a gourmet holiday spent sampling local oil and wine. Trullo Cesare is located in the countryside just outside the town of San Vito dei Normanni, where visitors will find shops, restaurants and several historic churches. The nearby town of Ostuni is surrounded by estate farms and has a picturesque center, and for a day trip, the Torre Guaceto nature reserve has some of the best beaches in Italy.
