Villa La Foce

Historical property sleeping up to 24 guests on a huge estate with one of the most beautiful gardens in Italy. From $30,000 per week

Tuscany-Southeast/Val D'Orcia Villa 24

This is where it all started in the Val d'Orcia, at least on a secular basis. This is the original manor house in the area from where a good portion of the Val d'Orcia was controlled and developed. The property is still owned by the Origo family.

It was originally built at the end of the XVth century as a wayside tavern, but soon became the centre of an estate belonging to the great Hospital of Santa Maria della Scala in Siena. In 1924 it was bought by Antonio and Iris Origo and turned into their comfortable home, from where they farmed and developed the land.

Two full-time maids (including a local cook) and an extra daily help care for the house and its guests. Meals are often held under the pergola in the garden, where guests can relax in the shade of roses and wisteria, lulled by the sound of water in the fountain nearby. The villa has some of the most beautiful Italian gardens in Italy and is both beautiful and historic. This house is the epitome of Tuscany. It is a traditional house built on three levels which is packed with old-world charm and filled with beautiful heirloom furniture, books and paintings. All rooms have stunning views over the classic garden and valley. The style is imaginative and opulent. The villa sleeps 19 guests, consisting of the main building and a separate apartment. The main building is for 14 people.

Through the woods, a path joins the garden and family cemetery, considered one of renowned landscape designer, Cecil Pinsent's best creations.

10 acres of landmark gardens, private chapel, four living rooms, two dining rooms, tennis court, children's play room, wine cellar, helipad, onsite staff.

Please note this is a historic property and an aristocratic villa in a traditional sense. There is an extreme amount of living space, and some of the bedrooms are singles. The kitchen can be used only by the staff and cannot be used by the guests themselves, though a couple kitchenettes are available for guest use.

Three gardeners look after the premises, including the swimming pool opposite the 'limonaia' (orangerie). Guests relax in the shade of roses and wisteria, lulled by the sound of water from the fountain nearby.
